These insulation packages are available in two different versions based on the operating temperature of the heat exchanger. |
The below ambient version uses a jacketed 1” thick closed cell foam to insulate the heat exchanger. It helps prevent the insulation from becoming wet since sweating is usually a problem on these units. Insulating the heat exchanger will greatly reduce the condensation. Due to maintenance requirements it is impractical to provide a complete vapor barrier, so a small amount of sweating will still occur if the surface temperatures are below the dew point of the air around the unit. The closed-cell foam has a service temperature range of -70º F to +180º F. |
The above ambient
HexWrap uses a 1” - 3” thick, jacketed insulation. Thickness is determined
by the maximum operating temperature of the exchanger. The foam insulation
is a flexible, open-cell melamine product called TechLite®. TechLite® has a
service temperature of ![]() |
Both versions of the insulation package use a 28 oz. 30 mil thick, polyester reinforced PVC jacket with solvent-welded Velcro® closures. The Velcro® will allow for future adjustability as the exchangers expand or contract due to service requirements. Some trimming may be required in the field at the time of installation due to local piping requirements. The material can be cut and trimmed with standard scissors and a box knife. | |
Outdoor installations will require some sealing around bolt or nozzle cut outs to prevent rain water from entering. If the unit were protected from rain by an overhang or roof, then no further sealing would be required. |
These insulation packages are a quick, convenient way to save energy and protect personnel. They are designed for years of easy maintenance and re-usability. |

General Specification Information: |
All heat exchangers shall be insulated for protection of personnel and energy conservation. |
Insulation shall be easily removable for access and maintenance by use of a Velcro® hook and loop fastening system. |
For below ambient applications, where condensation on the exchanger surface could occur, the exchanger shall be insulated with a minimum of 1” closed-cell foam with a factory attached, flexible, reinforced PVC jacket of no less than 30 mil thickness. |
For above ambient applications the exchanger shall be insulated with factory jacketed melamine foam (ASTM-C1410) at a thickness of 1-3”, determined by the maximum expected service temperature of the exchanger. |
The jacketing shall be a flexible, reinforced PVC material of no less than 30 mil thickness. |
Insulation shall be attached to the front and rear frames with contact cement or like product. |
No mechanical fasteners shall be attached to the heat exchanger. |
Top and side pieces shall be easily removable for future growth or maintenance. |
